Preview Link Broken
-
There were a couple of scattered reports of this a few days ago.
When using the Preview button in the sidebar (classic editor) one can see a preview of the post. When using the Preview link in text on the top left, it leads to a 404 page with the URL of the scheduled post, not the preview link.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi raincoaster,
I just tested the Preview link on the new editor, and it seems to be working for me!

Hi raincoaster,
I just tested this in the classic editor, and both the Preview button and the “Preview post” text link (in the banner message at the top after saving a draft or scheduling a post) worked for me. I checked both with a draft and with a scheduled post.
Were you able to reproduce the issue you saw in those other reports of this? Or do you have links to those other reports so I can take a look?

Using the classic editor, the actual button on the right gives me this URL
Using the text link on the left which says “Post updated. View post” gives me this link:
http://thecryptosphere.com/2014/10/16/communication-identity-and-the-origin-of-information-by-heather-marsh/ which goes nowhere as it hasn’t been published yet.

Hm, that’s odd. When you’ve scheduled a post, the permalink for the scheduled post should still work for you (but not for anyone else). Can you see the scheduled if you use your WordPress.com address instead of your domain in the URL like this:

Just as a guess, is this the same computer that you were having admin bar issues with? If so, can you try testing on a different computer and seeing if the result is the same?
I know it’s a common thing, but does everything check out when you view the third-party cookies page:
-
Just chiming in: the permalink for a scheduled or draft post works for me while I’m logged in (as Rachel suggested), but not on a different browser where I wasn’t logged in.
I wonder if you might any luck clearing your WordPress.com and domain cookies?
-
Josh: yes it is. And I won’t have another to test it on till tomorrow.

Ah, that would explain it all. Of course it can’t identify me when I’m on the front of the blog; neither to do a preview nor to show me the admin bar. That’s the answer. Thanks!
