Preview link not working

  • Hi again,

Hi, I’m not sure where you got that URL. I didn’t give it to you. The URLs I shared with you do not contain the word “nonce” in them.

If you look at the second post you made on this thread (linked here) you will see that the link you shared contains a nonce in it. This is the only place we are getting the link from.

In our tests we cannot seem to replicate this issue, and it’s working well for us when we try.

There’s no option to delete anything from a URL before it changes to a preview.

My colleague was asking you to try this as a test, but I think that it’s OK for you to skip that test. Instead I would like you to try something different.

    1. Open an Incognito Window in Chrome (File>New Incognito Window)
    2. Go to https://wordpress.com/log-in/ and sign in to your WordPress.com account
    3. Go to the editor view of your post and click the preview option (in the editor)

Does this allow you to correctly see the preview, or do you get the error message? If you get the error message, can you copy the URL of the page you are on (the one that shows the error message) and share it in your reply here?

    Thanks!

  • @jilannehoffmann just letting you know we were able to spot a few other users having this issue, too. We’ve got a case filed and will update you when we have a solution. Any additional information you’re willing to send would be welcome. Thanks!

Looking forward to finding a solution. In the meantime, will my posts be viewable, or will subscribers and others who come by the blog only see the “oops!” page?

I post every Friday, so I need to know soon. Thank you!

  • Hi again,

This will only affect your ability to preview un-published blog posts and pages (something only an Admin can do) and as you noted, it affects the editor view only. As a workaround you can always save your work by clicking the “Save Draft” link at the top. Then go to the post list view and preview from there. Not the most elegant solution but until this is addressed by our developers it is at least a way to be able to preview content.

For published blog posts that anyone can see by viewing your site, there are no issues to be expected. They will see the standard link to the post and it will load without issue.

    Thanks for your patience!
