preview not working

Hi, anyone having the same issue? When I want to preview a new post or to display an already published post in the Classic Editor, I get two identical boxes at the bottom of the page with a text going like “your request could not be completed” (or something similar; this is my translation back into English). When I use the block editor, hitting the “preview” button gives me a blank page saying “oops the page coul not be found”. Posting has become really awkward these days.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

I’ve tried to retrace your steps, but I do not seem to have trouble previewing content regardless of the editor I use. What if you log in to WordPress.com in a different browser, and then try to preview your post?

For example, if you normally use Firefox, what happens if you log in to WordPress.com in Chrome, and try the same thing?

Do you have the issue regardless of the browser you use, or is the issue with one specific browser? Thanks for the additional info!

I logged in from Firefox. The result is a double window: https://eprakone.files.wordpress.com/2020/11/wp2.jpg Then I logged in from Edge. The result was a single window: https://eprakone.files.wordpress.com/2020/11/wp.jpg. Then I logged in from the old Explorer I do not use anymore. There was no popup window.

I do not use Chrome at all.

I usually log into the old address eprakone.wordpress.com. Tried to log into the eprakone.org address from Firefox but the result was the two consequent windows as above.

The window is in Slovak but it basically says “Your request could not be processed. Your request caused a problem. We are working on fixing it.”

The pop-up window shows in the footer part of the page. It always takes me there.

  • Hi there,

Are you speaking of the preview option here in the block editor:

    https://d.pr/i/Z6hUXv

and here in the classic editor?

    https://d.pr/i/M7zLpW

I don’t see any error messages when I view either those previews in Firefox for your site.

But the screenshots you provided also appears to show your Facebook page, and I don’t see anything like that when previewing posts from your site’s editor. Are you clicking somewhere else for that preview?

I usually log into the old address eprakone.wordpress.com. Tried to log into the eprakone.org address from Firefox but the result was the two consequent windows as above.

eprakone.wordpress.com and eprakone.org is exactly the same site, so it doesn’t matter which one you type in your browser. If you use the editor in WP-Admin, it will always redirect you to eprakone.wordpress.com/wp-admin

Today I tried the block editor preview button (top right) and it worked alright – for the first time in weeks. :-) Firefox still shows the double popup window.

The part behind the popup window showing the Facebook links is the footer widgets on my blog (the black part at the bottom of the page). When I click the preview in the Classic Editor, it shows the page, then jumps to the footer and shows the error message there.

Few seconds ago, I tried to display a preview of the post from the backend section Articles -> Preview (or Display/Show – I am not sure of the English word for it) and it produced the same error – showed the article, then jumped to the footer area and showed a double error message there. This incident bypassed the block editor/classic editor option completely and still dispalyed the error message.

  • When I click the preview in the Classic Editor, it shows the page, then jumps to the footer and shows the error message there.

That is not happening for me when previewing any of your posts from the editor, but it is happening if I just load your homepage in my browser.

This error doesn’t have anything at all to do with the editor. The error is appearing on the Facebook widgets themselves, and are coming from Facebook.

It looks like the timelines from those two Facebook pages are not embedding properly. You don’t see the error on the other two Facebook widgets, because they’re not set to display the timelines.

I’m getting the same error for the Facebook widget on my own site, so it’s likely an API outage on Facebook’s end. I’m reporting it to our developers to investigate, but for now the only way to prevent that error, is to change the widget settings to not show the page timelines inside the widget.

  • I’ve actually managed to find a bug report for this on Facebook, so this is an issue on their end:
