preview page not found

preview page won’t load, it comes up with an error message saying WordPress page not found. This started about a month ago and hasn’t worked since.
Any chance you can help?

Hi there!
I’ll be happy to help once I have more information. Can you let me know what site you’re having this preview problem? Also, can you walk me through the steps you’re taking to create a new post or page and where you’re getting the error?
Thank you!

HI, thanks for coming back to me.
When I start a new post I choose Add post and paste my copy through the text box, not word. I save along the way. For the last 2 years I’d then click on preview to make sure the video worked and everything looked ok. Then I’d edit to get back to the working post and publish.
I’m doing everything the same but when I go to preview it says page not found.
The site is kathyreevesblog.com, it is on the WordPress site, hosted on WordPress.
Thank you so much for your help. Preview isn’t essential but it is awfully nice to have.

I think I see the problem.
When you click “preview post” – it should open the post in a new window or tab and your edit post page should remain open in it’s own window/tab. If you’re on the preview page, you should not click “edit” to make more changes but instead you should go back to the original edit post window or tab to make your edits. Making changes in the post editor and clicking preview again will refresh your original preview window to show your latest changes.
Here’s a screenshot that shows the two different windows that are opened when clicking “preview” in the post editor:
http://d.pr/i/HvqMWe’ve recently made changes to how posts are edited in a multi-author environment, so that might explain why the workflow you used to do doesn’t work anymore. Here’s more information on those changes:

HI, thanks for trying to help me. I just tried that. The problem is in the initial opening of the preview page. As you said, it should open in a seperate window. The seperate window for preview comes up with my theme artwork, then the message:
NOT FOUND
Apologies but the page you requested could not be found. Perhaps searching will help. Then it gives me a search box.
If I close that NOT FOUND page, my original working post is still behind it.

Thanks for that update. Can you let me know what post you’re working on (just the title is fine) so I can take a closer look? As Staff, I can view your site’s dashboard and files so I’m going to try and replicate what is occurring.
Also, can you let me know what browser version and operating system you’re using?
Thank you!

Thanks for that information!
I went in and tried editing and refreshing the page and it works for me, but I’m using Chrome on the Mac.
I’m going to have our developers take a look to see if they can duplicate this problem. Can you leave that test post up on your site for the time being? Since it’s a draft, it shouldn’t get in the way. :)
Thanks for your patience while we get this sorted out.
