Previewing post layouts in mobile/tablet/desktop

    Hello,

    I’ve noticed over the past few weeks that the preview function seems to have changed from the mobile/tablet/desktop previewer that pops up in the same tab to just a desktop preview in a new tab.

    I really need the mobile preview function as I publish a lot of poetry and it’s important for me to be able to check the layout on mobile before a post goes live.

    Is this still possible or has that incredibly helpful function been removed?

    (If I’ve managed to fudge something in my settings, please let me know! I’ve not fiddled around with them at all but you never know…)

    Hi there,

    The preview behaviour as you’re currently seeing it is how it’s designed to work in the open source WordPress software, and how it will work if you access the editor from WP-Admin.

    Here on WordPress.com we developed our own preview feature, specific to the version of the editor under My Site, which shows the previews in different screen sizes, but it appears that feature has a bug preventing it from working. Our developers are aware of the issue, but they’re not sure yet what’s causing it, so I’m not able to tell you how long it might take to fix.

    But I can tell you it wasn’t removed intentionally, and hopefully we can get it working again soon :)

    Oh, phew! That’s good to know. I did think it was a weird choice to remove, since it was so handy.

    I just came here to check on this same issue. I’m working on a new site and Preview Changes button takes me straight to the desktop view. There’s still no preview for mobile or tablet.

    Hi @mvtcgm what is the URL of your site? I don’t see any under your WordPress.com account when I look here: https://wordpress.com/sites/

    Please note that if you have a self-hosted WordPress site (which are sites that you create on a “traditional web host” like Bluehost, GoDaddy, etc.) that is a different version of the WordPress platform and does not behave the same as previews on WordPress.com sites.
