Hi there, have you recently switched themes to “Blank Canvas”?
According to that theme’s showcase page at https://wordpress.com/theme/blank-canvas next and previous buttons don’t appear on this theme. I also tried this theme out on my test site and there are no such buttons there either.
I’ve flagged your thread for Staff attention and input here. Thanks for your patience while they get back to you.

Hi there
It appears you switched themes several times 2 months ago. I see that it was on Twenty Sixteen before you moved to Blank Canvas. Is that the last time you remember seeing the next and previous buttons on your blog? I am testing those themes you were using and they all have the
older postsbuttons. Do you happen to remember what theme you were using? -
Hi staff-doublebassd et al – I realize the original poster hasn’t responded yet, but I did want to add that both “Previous” and “Next” buttons between Posts is pretty standard fare as far as the single post view goes. There doesn’t seem to be any way at the moment (that I can discern) to add that to some Block themes and their child themes.
Perhaps this could be considered for “Content Options” in the Customizer? TIA

Hi Jen!
I think it’s more likely that you’ll see some kind of block-based implementation Since the open-source project is moving toward Full Site Editing or “FSE” some of the newer themes we’re creating are designed with this new way of editing/creating sites in mind.
This is probably more than the OP needs to know about, but if you’re curious blog posts here go into much more detail about how themes will work with FSE: https://themeshaper.com/

Thanks staff-totoro – So in the short term then, I understand that if @puppy1952 wants to have “Previous” and “Next” buttons between Posts, they should change themes to one that supports them?
Which, by the way, is rather difficult to figure out when previewing themes like Blank Canvas, that do not display a Posts page in the demo. #justsaying

Hello there,
I understand that if @puppy1952 wants to have “Previous” and “Next” buttons between Posts, they should change themes to one that supports them?
That’s correct.
It might be helpful to search for themes where posts is the main feature, or the design is built around a posts/blog design: https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/post-slider/
I hope this helps.
