Previous reference plugins?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Good evening, all —

Is there a plugin that will do the heavy lifting for finding previous blog posts that refer to items which I then I blog about later?

Meaning, if I’d posted a blog about ebooks vs physical books a year ago ago, and then I’m writing a new post today that touches on the same subject, is there a plugin (or perhaps just a time-saving way I’m wholly overlooking) that would locate/copy the URL for that related post so that I can link to it inline as I’m writing the new post?

  • Hi there,

There are plugins like that, but the best place to ask about this is in the forums for the open source WordPress software at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

The forum where you’re posting now is for the hosting provider, WordPress.com. Using plugins here requires our Business Plan, and as this forum is primarily for free users who can’t use any plugins, we’re not able to recommend or provide advice on which plugins to use for particular functions here as we simply don’t have the knowledge needed to make those types of recommendations.

    Good morning!

Thanks for the feedback, but my understanding is that the .org forums are for self-hosted WP sites, are they not? I actually went there first but they clearly post that on their forums. This is a question regarding my WordPress site (as hosted by a third party).

Self-hosted sites means sites not hosted here at WordPress.com. If your site is hosted by a third part then you do need to register an account and post in the other forum:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

  • This is a question regarding my WordPress site (as hosted by a third party).

Then you are self-hosted. The term self-hosted refers to using WordPress with any hosting setup other than WordPress.com, whether it’s a server you run yourself or a server you “rent” via a hosting plan from a hosting provider like Bluehost. It’s confusing, I know, but that’s how the terminology has become established over the years that WordPress and WordPress.com have co-existed.

But more importantly in this case, your question is for the best plugin to use for a particular purpose. The best people to advise on on that are the people who make plugins for WordPress, and those people are found on WordPress.org as that’s where the open source WordPress software gets made.

This forum is for WordPress.com, a specific hosting provider for that software, and the people who use this particular forum, including those of us in staff, have very little experience with and knowledge about the wide variety of plugins available out there, so we’re not able to help you here.

Got it now. Thanks for the clarification!

    All the best.
