Previously Purchased Domain
-
Hello,
I recently was assisted by David C. on your team who removed my domain Duhin.TV since it had expired. He suggested that once removed, it may be available again if released by the registrar. However, when I look up the domain it says that it has been registered until 2017. I called the registrar (Wild West Domains) and they said that WordPress will be the one to do anything about that domain since it is registered with them until 2017.
I am very confused as to why it is registered with WordPress until 2017, if it had already expired under my account this year. The registrar can do nothing about it since it still belongs to WordPress according to Wild West Domains.
Please let me know what you can do about this, as it is very peculiar to me why a domain I purchased for 1 year is registered with you for another year after expiration. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
The domain has been cancelled, but after cancellation a domain goes through a holding period of a few days in case you change your mind and still want to get it back.
The domain is also not released immediately upon the end of the holding period, but the registrar might first attempt to sell it at auction before releasing it to the public again. As David also told you in your chat with him, the entire process can take up to 80 days.
If you want me to try and recover the domain, let me know and I can send you a link to pay for the domain and redemption fee, but otherwise you’ll need to be patient for the domain to be released and hope no one buys it at auction during the redemption phase.

Hello,
A holding period makes sense, but what me and the registrar are confused by is why the domain is registered with WordPress until 2017. If you look up duhin.tv on whois.net, you will see that it is registered with you until June of next year.
I don’t mind being patient, but I’d like to know if the domain being registered with you until next year means it also won’t be released until next year. I spoke to the registrar (wild west domains) and they told me to clarify that with you, since they could have made the domain available to me had it been on their system and not yoursThank you

This is normal for domains registered with us due to how our agreement with the registrar works. It might still show as registered with us until the holding period is over and they finalise the cancellation on their end as well. This is to ensure that during the holding period we can still get the domain back should you change your mind. But once the holding period is over it shouldn’t show as registered with us any more.
