  it is not clear what is free, you need price list, where is this? I start to create a blog, but then it says “buy now” with no cost given??? I just want to create a blog for free, but you take me through in an awkward manner, I want to see my various theme choices, but you show 6, one of which is $75 dollars?!? I try to customize what appears to be a free theme and then I get that “buy now” thing…huh? I thought it was free? ugh.

  To gain access to the CSS editor and be able to customize a theme you will have to purchase an annually renewable custom design upgrade http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/ and do the required CSS editing http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/editing-css/

  Many themes have the option of a custom background or custom header at no extra charge. Use the filters in the Theme Showcase to find them. http://theme.wordpress.com/
