Pricing After First Year

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi! I just started blogging and I am considering wordpress.com but I understand that the free domain is only for the first year. After the first year, other than the price of the wordpress.com plans and the price of the domain, is there more that I have to pay?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, just to clarify you can blog at your free 8kguy.wordpress.com URL for free for as long as you like. These domains never expire.

All WordPressdotcom upgrade plans include a domain credit so that you can either buy a new custom domain or map a domain you already own. The upgrade plan itself needs to be renewed annually and includes the renewal of any custom domain you may have purchased with the plan. There’s no other payment beyond that. Renewal is automatically done with the payment method you chose about a month prior to expiration unless you opt out of automatic renewal.

Hope that covers your question, but if I’ve missed something, let me know.

What about the free privacy protection? Does that expire after 1 year too?

Hello again, only .ca domains have domain privacy included for free.

For all other TLDs, domain privacy is optional at a separate fee and is renewed annually as well, unless you choose otherwise. https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/register-domain/#public-versus-private

Hello again, after further clarification I need to correct my earlier reply to you.

When you purchase any WordPressdotcom upgrade plan and register a new custom domain as a part of that plan, domain privacy is also included. However, activating that domain privacy is optional, i.e. you can choose whether or not to enable it when you register your new custom domain.

If that is not clear or you have further questions, please let me know. Sorry for any confusion caused.
