Pricing – Business Plan

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello. I recently purchased a domain name from godaddy.com. I wish to build the website using WordPress, so I am looking at the 4 different packages available on the WordPress Pricing page. The Business Plan $25/month is the only one that has the options ‘Install Plugins’ and ‘Upload Themes’ in the list of advantages. Are these two capabilities really limited to the Business Plan??

I ask because I am already working on building a different website with WordPress and I am able to install plugins and upload images (I am using DiviThemes, etc)…and I don’t see any charges in my WordPress Billing History. If the Pricing page is correct, I should see $25/month in my billing history…right? Perhaps this is because the package I bought from Godaddy came with WordPress, specifically WordPress Business?? Not sure.

Lastly, I just want to build my new website with WordPress and find a hosting service later. Can I do that on WordPress.org or .com?

Thank you. I am new to building websites so please write back in a way that a beginner would understand.

    Hi mcallbee,

There is a difference when you purchase a domain name with a different host with WordPress and using a free or premium WordPress plan. You can read more here:

    https://wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

You will not need a payment plan in WordPress.com as your host “godaddy.com” has you covered. If you wish to subscribe to the $25/month Business Plan in the nearest future you should consider mapping your domain to WordPress

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

The Business Plan $25/month is the only one that has the options ‘Install Plugins’ and ‘Upload Themes’ in the list of advantages. Are these two capabilities really limited to the Business Plan

All the plan can install Plugins and Upload Themes. The business plans give you more flexibility in purchasing and installing a third party plugin purchased outside the confines of WordPress.

Charges only apply if you are hosted at WordPress.com and subscribed to the Business Plan

You can a achieve that by creating a free domain and later upgrade your plan:

    I hope this helps.

  • Hi there,

The Business Plan $25/month is the only one that has the options ‘Install Plugins’ and ‘Upload Themes’ in the list of advantages. Are these two capabilities really limited to the Business Plan??

Yes, the Business Plan is required to use plugins at WordPress.com. All our plans are billed yearly in advance. See:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/business-plan/

I ask because I am already working on building a different website with WordPress and I am able to install plugins and upload images (I am using DiviThemes, etc)…and I don’t see any charges in my WordPress Billing History.

That website would be using the open source WordPress software which you can download at WordPress.org and install at any hosting provider or even your own server. That’s something completely different from WordPress.com, and you don’t have to buy anything from us to set up such a site.

If you want to do that with your new site, you need to get a hosting plan from GoDaddy in addition to your domain, if you don’t have on already. Then you install the WordPress software with them.

You can get support for that version of WordPress here:

    https://wordpress.org/support/

Lastly, I just want to build my new website with WordPress and find a hosting service later. Can I do that on WordPress.org or .com?

If you first want to create a site and the upload it to a host you need to install the WordPress software directly on your computer. We can’t help with that, but you can find instructions to do that here:

    https://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress#Installing_WordPress_on_your_own_Computer

I would not recommend that if you’r new at this, though, as it’s a very technical process.

All the plan can install Plugins and Upload Themes

This is not correct. Everywhere our documentation and interface mentions plugins it is very clearly stated that only the Business Plan allows uploading plugins and custom themes.
