Pricing for Hosting, Email, and Ecommerce Store

I need to confirm that the Ecommerce Plan ($45/month) will be ALL that we need to successfully start a website that needs about 10 email addresses, hosting services, and a commerce store capability for 300 SKUs.

Is there any other costs involved? How do we get started please?

We currently have an outdated website and webstore and are in desperate need of updating. Please advise.

  • We are a fully hosted service, so hosting is included, and there is no limit to the number of products you can have.

Everything listed at https://wordpress.com/pricing/ is included, there are no additional charges.

For adding email, and the prices of that, please see https://wordpress.com/support/add-email/

    Thank you!
    How should we proceed?

Since we already own a domain (with a live shopping cart website), we need to know to proceed to purchase a WordPress plan that will allow us to design a new website on the backend (in the background) until we are ready to point the DNS to the new site.

Would we be looking at a transfer or mapping?

We really need to have a place that will allow us to work on the setup in the interim without abandoning the old site.

For example, say our site is “mysite.com” — Should we setup the test site as “mysite2.com”? (this would be used as a testing ground)

Our goal is to keep our name (example: mysite.com). But if we setup a testing site are we then stuck with actually registering “mysite2.com” permanently? Will it be easy to redirect and change it over to “mysite.com” when everything is ready?

We are ready to purchase the Ecommerce Plan now please.

  • Hi there,

That is not an issue – what you could do is create a site with a free WordPress.com blog address. You are assigned a .wordpress.com or a .home.blog subdomain whenever you create a site with WordPress.com, so you can just use that as the domain as you build the site the way you want it. The site starts off private until you are ready to launch it.

Once you are done developing the site, you can make the decision to transfer the domain over:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/

    map an existing domain:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

Or even creating a new one:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/register-domain/

The biggest factors to consider would be who you want to host your domain, how much your domain host currently costs compared to the eCommerce Plan we offer here, and whether or not you want to host your domain and site at the same place.

If you transfer the domain to WordPress.com, we’ll manage the domain. Assuming you want the domain primary, you’ll pay for the mapping and the plan here (domain is included within the plan price for the first year).

But, if you keep the domain with your current host and map the domain to WordPress.com, your current host will continue to manage the domain and you’ll still need to pay them for hosting your domain.

    Hope this helps!
