Pricing

I am planning to upgrade yet again, after almost a year. But I spotted something. Is WordPress trying to rip-off old loyal customers while offering plans at discounted rates to new ones?

If I choose the personal plan option from my dashboard, the plan costs $4 monthly, billed annually as roughly Rs 3,648‬. However, I came across your pricing chart on your website page: https://wordpress.com/pricing/ the rate quoted for personal plan is ₹160 per month. It comes to Rs 1, 920 annually.

Why are existing customers in India unable to see this option via dashboard?

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

It looks like your WordPress.com account is set to show you prices in USD, which is why your prices are showing as dollars rather than Indian rupees. The plans page uses your geolocation for pricing offerings, which is why that is different in your case.

Would you like me to change your account currency to INR to properly reflect the pricing in your country? Just let us know and we’ll take care of that for you.

Hi, yes, sure, please do change the account currency to INR.
As you can see, I have been using domain mapping service with this account consistently since 2012 to 2021 Feb.

Unfortunately, I was not able to renew that in March this year. And now I need to upgrade to at least personal plan just for domain mapping. So, I would also appreciate if you can actually just help me with domain mapping service. I already have a domain registered with another provider

  • I have changed your account’s currency as requested.

Domain Mapping does require a paid plan now, so we are unable to offer it separately: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/

Hi, I checked it just now, thanks for updating the currency. However, it’s reflecting Rs 200 per month (2,400) annually, and not Rs 160, like on your pricing page for visitors who are not logged in to their WordPress account. Why does it cost more for existing WordPress consumers like me?

@satyastithi – Please take a screenshot of the pricing discrepancy on the plans page so we can see what you’re seeing, because it should be the same and it appears to not be the case. If you’re not familiar on how to take a screenshot, this support document will help explain how to make one:

    Take a Screenshot

Then, use a service like Snipboard.io to upload the screenshot and then share the image link from that service here and we’ll take a closer look.

    Thanks!

Hi, here you go with links for both screenshots.
And please learn to trust your customers when they are suggesting something.

Also, I am still waiting for the answer for my question: Why is WordPress offering discount on new signups while ripping-off consumers like me who are with WordPress since 2012? Don’t you think it should be the other way around?

@satyastithi – thank you so much for those screenshots and thanks for your patience while we looked into this with one of our developers.

It appears there’s a display bug on the plans page for your currency on the dashboard where it’s not calculating the first year discount at all. The discount will be properly applied when you go to checkout.

Can you add the plan you were wanting to purchase to your shopping cart, then go to checkout and verify whether or not the amount due is ₹1920 not ₹2400? Let us know how that goes!

    Thanks!

    Hi team,

Checked it, and as you pointed out, the checkout page shows discount for first year! Plan subscription is ₹1,920 . Thanks a ton!
