Primary Blog. What is it ?

  • Unknown's avatar

This is what I found in the Support articles:
“Your primary blog is what is selected if you log in from a blog which you do not have access to”
This is unintelligible for me. If I do not have access to a blog, I cant log in to that blog. I cannot edit it.
If I cant log in, I am out in the cold.
What is this all about ?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi. That means that, for example, if I try to log in through YOUR website, by going here:
    http://justicewatcher.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

…I will land NOT on your blog’s dashboard (obviously) on my primary blog (one of two that I have). That’s one of the great things about WordPress.com: it lets you customize a lot of things. Under similar circumstances, other blogging platforms would just throw you into a default setting of their choice.

Correction: I will land NOT on your blog’s dashboard but on my primary blog.

And what is the point ?

    To waste your time.

No, seriously, I’ll reiterate what others in this forum have told you: not all WordPress.com features are useful to you.

I am unable to see what is “usefull” to you and others.
To me “usefull” means saving time, not waisting time

@justicewatcher, as airodyssey has explained this means that you can log in to the blog you have marked in your Personal settings as your primary blog from any WordPress.com blog that has the Meta widget enabled. If you only have one blog, that is your primary blog.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/personal-settings/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/meta-widget/

Also, I have another suggestion for you.

If you read a Support article that you feel doesn’t answer your question, at the very bottom of the document you’ll find a rating system where you can either give the document a thumbs down or a thumbs up. If you choose thumbs down, a comment box will open and you can send your feedback directly to Support. The more specific you can be about why the Support doc is not answering your question, the more valuable your feedback is.

Nothing marked asprimary in my Personal Settings.
I can only see the Primary button on the Dashboard.
This is a column. So I wonder if we understand each other.

If you have MORE than one blog, then one of those is set as Primary. That means when you log in from anywhere on WordPress.com OTHER than one of your secondary blogs, you go straight to the dashboard of that blog. It also means when you leave a comment, the link on your name goes to the primary blog. You can change this under your Profile.

stenbocken and justicewather are 2 different accounts.

The account for stenbocken was started November 8, 2009
The account for justicewatcher was started September 13, 2009

So for each account, the blog linked to the username is a primary blog for that account.

    Raincoaster: do you mean
“when you log in to WP, you go straight to the dashboard of that blog.?”
If I do that , it does not act like you prescribe

when you log in from anywhere on WordPress.com OTHER than one of your secondary blogs, you go straight to the dashboard of that blog.

Kindly do not reply any more, don’t waist your time

[MOD EDIT- Please be civil. You’ve been warned.]

  • Unknown's avatar

I don’t understand: you don’t seem to have any issue with wasting the other volunteers’ time.

  • Unknown's avatar

I think stenbocken/justicewatcher has given us all some excellent advice. It seems that none of us are able to answer his questions to his satisfaction and so it would be waisting the volunteers’ time to try any further.

But before I go, let me again say what I said above:

If you read a Support article that you feel doesn’t answer your question, at the very bottom of the document you’ll find a rating system where you can either give the document a thumbs down or a thumbs up. If you choose thumbs down, a comment box will open and you can send your feedback directly to Support. The more specific you can be about why the Support doc is not answering your question, the more valuable your feedback is.

    Cheers!
