Primary Domain Help
-
I just bought the domain name clubpenguingalaxy.com today. When I set it up as my primary domain, there is a blank screen with an error message when I visit it. So I have to set up cdecker81.wordpress.com as my primary domain. Can someone help me please? Thanks! :)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

When you first get a domain name and change the nameservers, it takes anywhere from 24-72 hours for the change to make it all the way through the internet nameservers and stablize.

Nameservers are an internet system that keeps track of where the sites for individual domain names are actually located. The names that we see in a browser bar are actually just a convenience for users because all the IP addresses on the internet are actually numbers such as http://123.45.67.8 or similar.
-
Thanks. But what do I change the name servers into? Do I leave them as ns1.wordpress.com and ns2.wordpress.com?
-
Yes, leave them set as they are.
Typically it only takes 24 hours, but I’ve seen it take as long as 72 depending on how busy the nameservers are.
-
So it will automatically be my primary domain? Or do I have to make it my primary domain in domain settings?
-
If you go to the domain mapping page, there should be a “put blog here” link by the new domain name. You want to set click that.
See the “domain mapping” and “domain management” support documents here for more information: http://support.wordpress.com/?s=domain .

I have read those, and I am still having trouble understanding. Will my domain name start working automatically after 24-72 hours, or do I have to do something to make it work?
-
If you have the “put blog here” set to your new domain name it will automatically show up after 24-72 hours. Hopefully within 24.

Actually it looks like things have changed a little. You set the “primary blog” as your new domain.

When you buy a domain name through wordpress.com, and go through the domain mapping process that is done automatically for you. You don’t have to worry about it.

Ok, thanks to you, I can now access my new domain name! You are an expert at this stuff! I have read previous posts that you replied to. You are a huge help! I bet WP is very proud of you! Thanks again!

You’re welcome and thanks for the compliment. Your new domain name may be a little unstable for a little while until the changes make it through to all the name servers.

So for this thread and all the others i thank you O member for the sacred path.
