Primary Sidebar, how to remove search
-
I’ve been trying to remove the “search” bar from the primary sidebar widget. If I add something into Primary sidebar it disappears but if I delete all items under primary sidebar the search box will automatically come up (even though it is not listed). I would like to remove the primary sidebar completely from all of my pages and only keep the secondary but it is not letting me. Is there a way to do this?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello Mikajolie,
I found a post I think might be helpful which I’ll paste here :
https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/search-widget/
It seems that in order to remove the search bar you need to go to “Appearance–> Theme Options”.
If it’s not available there then it’s not removable unless you have the “Custom Design Upgrade” to your blog. In which case, you can remove it using CSS.
I hope this was helpful.
Good Luck!

Hi,
First up, you should be able (under ‘edit a post’) to allow ‘full page’ and that would get rid of the problem. Or check here for full width template for your ‘stay theme’ on the how to, it should be under customize etc…
If you don’t want that option, try adding another widget like ‘text’ but leave it blank and without a heading; (and delete the search widget) that worked for me when I simply wanted a ‘gap’ so to speak. It will be ‘blank’ space.
Hope that this helps you :)

@ mikajolie,
On some themes a default widget or multiple default widgets will display if a widget area is empty. Usually you can remove unwanted default widgets simply by adding an empty widget (e.g. a text widget with no content) to the widget area. However, an empty widget area will leave a large margin where the widgets would have appeared. The page will not be centered or expanded in width by emptying the widget area. That would require CSS customization.

Thanks everyone! Your feedback pretty much confirmed what I thought. The theme STAY will not allow one to remove the PRIMARY SIDEBAR. I also tried the empty text field widget but it still remains a large margin even without the default search box. I wanted everything on the right but will have to put all of the widgets on the left instead.
