Primary Site confusion

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve had a blog space sitting for awhile (https://peopleorchard.wordpress.com/) with an about page and engagements page. I changeed the name and am going to start using as a blog only now. I made the changes and I see there is a Primary Site which I toggled to creating the first post (https://peopleorchardblog.wordpress.com/), and deleted the about page.
I was going to remove the engagements page also, but the drop down shows the same 2 pages to toggle between. The 2 URL’s mentioned above still exist and the about page is still available.
Are there still 2 different URL’s? and how to I switch between them? Why is the about page still showing up?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I still see the content and previous URL – how do I address this?
What happens with old URL’s once they are changed? Why can’t they be accessed by the account owner/creator?

    Hi there,

I’m not 100% sure what you want to do so let’s go through what you’ve got first. I can see you’ve got this site:

    peopleorchardblog.wordpress.com

The other site – peopleorchard.wordpress.com – is owned by a different user account.

Would you like to set a static home page for this site – peopleorchardblog.wordpress.com ? If yes, there’s a video tutorial here:

    Set the Homepage

What happens with old URL’s once they are changed?

If you change the blog address of a WordPress.com blog the old URL is gone for good because we don’t recycle blog addresses:

Ok that may make sense, if I created the peopleorchard.wordpress.com with a diff account, how do I find out what it is?
I created it with a @peopleorchard.ca email which is no longer in use, so I changed this email a few days ago to the current peopleorchard.com email. I also still see 2 options under the Primary dropdown box which are the same. Shouldn’t this be the option between the old and new blog? I still see peopleorchard.wordpress.com listed in my account.

More specifically, under account settings, my web address is still peopleorchard.wordpress.com and I see the original pages I created are still present by going to it.

This site – https://peopleorchard.wordpress.com – is owned by a different email address to the one you think. I can’t tell you what it is but we do have an account recovery form you can use to try to regain access:

    https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery

The Web Address you can see in Account Settings is something you can type in. We don’t verify whether it’s your site or not because you can type any site address in there, including Google.com, if you want. However the sites listed in the Primary Site drop-down menu will only be those sites attached to your account.

Correct, it was originally the @peopleorchard.ca email which I recently changed.
I just subscribed to the peopleorchard.wordpress.com site and received 2 emails
    – the first confirming to peopleorchardblog.wordpress.com my new subscription
    – the 2nd telling peopleorchard.wordpress.com that peopleorchardblog is following it
*both went to the same email address, which confirms it is NOT owned by a different email address, correct?

  • Unknown's avatar

It wasn’t originally this email address – @peopleorchard.ca. It was a completely different email address again.

Are there any other email addresses you sometimes use? You could try resetting the password using this form:

    https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword

  • Unknown's avatar

That doesn’t make sense – I logged in with @peopleorchard.ca to change it to peopleorchard.com.
I used peopleorchardblog.wordpress to subscribe to peopleorchard contracting and received two emails
    – the 1st to peopleorchard.com confirming peopleorchardblog has a new subscription
    – the 2nd also to peopleorchard.com announcing the peopleorchard contracting a new subscriber
So you can see BOTH blogs are using the peopleorchard.com email.

As for other emails, I tried @reptilian.ca, @gmail.com, and @hotmail.com none which worked – and I don’t see why they would if as confirmed with the subscription BOTH blogs are using peopleorchard.com

I received the email on Tue 5/31/2016 4:56 PM
confirming “We recently received a request to change the email address for the WordPress.com user peopleorchardcontracting from (email visible only to moderators and staff) to (email visible only to moderators and staff).”

If there was another email, why was I able to do this?

  • Unknown's avatar

I can see that email change happened about a week ago for the account you’re signed into now and this blog – peopleorchardblog.wordpress.com.

However this blog peopleorchard.wordpress.com has not seen any activity for several months and is owned by a different user.

Your site is this one – peopleorchardblog.wordpress.com. If you want to change the site address to peopleorchard.com then you can register a domain:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/register-domain/

  • Unknown's avatar

You are correct, please check your records and confirm I logged into peopleorchard.wordpress.com and created peopleorchardblog.wordpress.com – hence why there was a requirement to select a primary.

peopleorchard.wordpress.com has not seen any activity for longer than several months, and no blog activity at all, since I only created the About & Engagements pages (that I can recall).

Why would I register the domain peopleorchard.com – I already own it.

I contact my email host to determine whether or not I could be missing emails sent from peopleorchard.com

Did you send an email as I previously requested? Please confirm when you have done so, I need this resolved so I can connect this blog to my website

I’m not sure what email you want me to send, sorry. I’ve just sent an email to the owner of https://peopleorchard.wordpress.com. Is that what you mean? Hopefully you got the email.

The owner of that account owns two blogs:

    https://peopleorchard.wordpress.com
    https://officemapper.wordpress.com

I’m not sure how else I can help because I cannot tell you the email address on the account and in order to prove account ownership we need one of the three things listed here:

    https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery
