primary wordpress site deactivated but need jetpack connection

Hi, I had a site with WordPress installed, with a random URL. Then I registered a new domain, theunconventionalfarmer.com, and migrated everything over to that domain to manage from there. I didn’t renew the first URL and now I don’t own that domain. When I login to wordpress and click My Site now, I get the error: ‘Please check your Primary Site’s Jetpack connection’. I think the first URL was my Primary Site but I have no access to it at all. Can someone from WordPress please help me make theunconventionalfarmer my Primary Site.

To reiterate – I have ZERO access to the Primary Site, and if I click My Site, I get the error “please check your Primary Site’s Jetpack connection”, and if I click the little wp-admin link there, it takes me to the OLD domain which I have no access to. I don’t see how a community forum will help with this since this will likely be a backend ticket, so this process of pointing me to open forums is very irritating.

  • Hi there,

is gilcarandang.com the address you’re trying to remove? We can help with that.
As for the new site, you will want to connect it manually as explained here:

    Jetpack

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply, yep, here’s some clarification:

    – originally set up wordpress site (Atahualpa theme) on URL gilcarandang.com. Hosted on my own private server.

    – I bought a new URL (theunconventionalfarmer.com) and pointed everything to there. But I guess my Primary Site was still set to gilcarandang.com..

    – I didn’t upkeep the host server and after some time theunconventionalfarmer.com didn’t resolve to any page, although I could still see all my content through wordpress admin.

    – I didn’t renew gilcarandang.com URL so lost access to that.

This is a project I dropped some time ago but would like to pick it up again a bit. It would be great if theunconventionalfarmer.com could be set as the Primary Site instead of gilcarandang.com. Hope this makes sense.

    Thanks

  • Thanks for clarifying, I have removed the site gilcarandang.com from your account. Now you will want to connect theunconventionalfarmer.com as explained here:

    Jetpack

    Hi,

Sorry maybe I’m not following.. from my wordpress login page, when I click My Site now it says I don’t have any wordpress sites and would I like to create one. But I have a wordpress site, linked to theunconventionalfarmer.com (when I got to theunconventionalfarmer.com/wp-admin, it just says “pageok”). Although maybe theunconvetionalfarmer.com was just set as an alias for gilcarandang.com, I’m not sure how your system manages that.. Is my wordpress site lost now that gilcarandang.com is deleted? I mean is there any way to recover my theme and configurations that I had set up before?

  • Hm.. for what it’s worth, neither gilcarandang.com nor theunconventionalfarmer.com is (or was) hosted here. The former was just connected through Jetpack at one point. When you have Jetpack working on the site at its new address, you can connect Jetpack.

But it seems theunconventionalfarmer.com doesn’t have a WordPress installation. You can check with your host to be sure.

If you’re looking for the files and data for gilcarandang.com, do you still have an account at the host you were using? Are you able to get a backup? If you had paid backups through Jetpack, we’d have that for you, but I don’t see that here.

If you can regain access to the hosting files or if you have a backup, even if the domain is gone, you can likely work with your host to restore that. Then, use these steps to update the address in the WordPress installation. Your host can likely help if needed:
    https://wordpress.org/support/article/changing-the-site-url/

Once all that is up and going, you can reconnect Jetpack to get the site to show up here again, if you’re using our tools to manage the site.

Then if you need more help, use the correct forums here:
