privacy

I would like to keep my entire blog private. From outsiders and what not.
Because to me , this is somewhat my ‘online’ diary.
The privacy settings offered on site will infact be completely private ?
    I’m merely curious

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there. If you set your blog to private under Settings ->Reading only you and people you specifically invite will be able to read it. If anyone else clicks on a link to your blog (or, for that matter, a link to any file in your media library) they will get a message that the site is private. They’ll be able to request an invitation to view your blog, but you can just ignore those.

On the other hand, the only ways someone will get a link to your blog (aside from this forum thread) is if you give it to them, as search engines won’t index a blog that is marked as private, or if you have it linked to your username. You can remove your blog link from your username via your account settings: https://wordpress.com/me/account Remove the Web Address under that link, then click on My Profile and remove the link if it appears under the Profile Links on that screen as well, then no one will be able to even find the link to your site.

Note that forum staff can access your site, even if it’s marked as private, but they only do so if you request help with a problem. Forum volunteers such as me can’t access your site at all.

Keep in mind that all this is moot if you don’t use a secure password (WordPress.com and email both), or leave your password lying around where others can find it.
