  Can a free wordpress site be made private, or is that paid option only?

  Thanks – I found that, and it showed my whole privacy section grayed out, with the “Coming soon” selected. I will keep poking away and see when it lights up.

  I did get feedback a free site CAN be set to private, which is what I want at the start. Once I get a feel for it maybe I will open things up.

  I am just trying to get a feel for if this is the platform for me to post travel pics and etc for immediate family, and to learn how to operate stuff.

  Hi there!

  It was greyed out because your site has not been launched yet. The Coming Soon mode is very similar to private, with the difference that others can’t ask you to get access to view it.

  That said, if you want to keep working on the site without others viewing it, keep the Coming Soon mode.
  If you’re ready to show the site to the world, but you only want some people to see it, launch it first, and then change the privacy settings.
