I want my blog to be private, not searchable, etc. I understand I should go to settings, and then reading. Well, when I go to settings there is no reading option. Please advise.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You must be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog to access the blog’s dashboard and go to > Settings > Reading. To change blog visibility to Private go to Dashboard > Settings > Reading scroll to Blog Visibility and choose option 3 .

I’m trying to do the same thing. Looking forward to seeing the answer. I’m using a free blog.

Hi hurleychar!
When you go into your Settings do you see the other categories like General, Writing, Discussion, etc?

Thank you. I was totally missing the first step of being in “Dashboard.” The settings tab I was under was not helping me. I fixed it. Thanks again!

@scgcshopblog
This support forum is only for free hosted WordPress.com bloggers. What I posted is correct. Being logged in under the exact same username account that registered the blog is key.
http://scgcshopblog.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-reading.phpP.S. the blog linked to your username is already set to private.
