Privacy – Add user: user access

I’m new to wordpress. I have added about 10 friends using the Privacy – Add user option. FAQs say at Note 1 “There is no ‘password'”. I just logged out & tried to access the blog as one of these friends but it asked for a login that isn’t mine… do I assign them a login/password? How?
I just want my friends to read and post comments to my blog, that’s all.

You’re friends will have to sign up for a wordpress username they do not have to get a blog, just a username. Once you have their usernames then you can set them up in privacy > add user.

The rest of Note 1 says:

A non-wordpress.com user will see a screen saying:
This blog is protected, to view it you must log in.
If you don’t have a WordPress.com account, you can get one in seconds.

Will the friends then be able to post comments to my blog?

Yes, if you have set it to allow comments.
