Privacy and cookie consent banner

Hi, I have a domain forwarding to this WordPress site, and have the Privacy and Cookie Consent banner popping up on every page regardless of whether the user clicks Agree. Can I do anything to remove this? Or is it simply because of the forwarding?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi @carriedunn,

The domain forwarding doesn’t affect how your WordPress.com site functions. It simply redirects visitors to your WordPress.com site and doesn’t interfere with how the banner behaves.

Normally, once a visitor clicks “Agree,” the banner should go away and stay hidden for future visits—at least until cookies are cleared. If the banner keeps reappearing on every page, it’s likely due to one of the following:

    • The visitor’s browser is blocking cookies, preventing their choice from being remembered.
    • There’s an issue with their browser cache or cookie settings.

To resolve this, ask the affected visitor to:

    • Clear their browser cache and cookies
    • Ensure that cookies are enabled in their browser settings

Unfortunately, the banner cannot be removed on the Free WordPress.com plan. However, if you’re on one of our paid hosting plans, then this banner is optional.

Let me know if you’d like to explore that option!

It’s strange, it doesn’t happen when I am navigating directly between WordPress URLs, but when I type in the domain that is forwarding, the banner comes up and it obscures the entire page.

    Hi @carriedunn,

Could you please share the domain name so I can verify it from my end? Also, could you share which browser you are using?

I look forward to your reply.

    Hi @carriedunn,

I was able to replicate the issue when accessing your site dolgellauaafc.co.uk. This is because your domain forwarding uses frame redirect (also called masking), which can affect how your site behaves, as the site is essentially loaded inside a frame on the forwarding domain.

This setup can interfere with how cookies and scripts—like the Privacy and Cookie Consent banner—function. For example, some browsers may block or restrict cookies in framed content, which can cause the banner to reappear repeatedly since the user’s consent isn’t properly saved.

To avoid these issues, it’s best to use a standard HTTP redirect instead of frame forwarding. This way, visitors are directly taken to your .wordpress.com site, and all features, including the consent banner, will work as intended.

The only other option would be to upgrade to a paid plan, and you can use your customer domain as your site’s primary address.

Let me know if you have other questions!
