Privacy and Name – Please help, I am very worried
-
Hi,
I have been using WordPress for three years. I write a popular, personal blog which is registered to the pseudonym I use for writing. This is to protect the identity of my child. I have noticed lately that I have been receiving Google hits as a result of people searching for my real name. Sure enough, my blog comes up as one of the first results on Google when my real name is searched for. How is this happening and how can it be fixed… urgently? Any help will be very gratefully received.
Thanks for reading.

We can only speculate. Do you have other official users of your blog? Are they so ill advised to have ratted you out?
We all leave digital breadcrumb trails online and in most cases where this happens it’s the person writing under the psuedonym who has provided the bread crumbs that trail right back to them. Is it possible that your identity could have been guessed by what you have stated in the blog ie. information you have provided or by the geographical area you live in, etc. or have you posted images of yourself and your family in the blog?

My real name was linked to my blog on Google by technorati, which is one of the reasons I have zero use for them anymore.

Are you a published author and have you revealed the title of the books you published in the blog?
Are you launching a new book and were you so ill advised as to publish that fact and other details in the blog?
Have you revealed any other sites or places that you write also write for?
Do you have a Twitter acoount?
How many social networks do you belong to?The bottom line here is this is NOT a wordpress.com issue. WordPress.com does NOT give out personal information no matter what. In order to be located and named you had to post your personal information womewhere online and enough information to connect it to the blog.

ever identified as so and so of blog-abc? How about Whois and your domain registration? If your first name begins with “E” might be a link there – ever host or moderate anything?
