privacy -need to change privacy to check contact information for domain transfer

  Hello,

  This is a re-post as I screwed up the subject on the first one…

  I am currently trying to transfer a site to WordPress.Org. As such, I am trying to transfer our domain (beneaththetangles.com), purchased through WordPress.com.
  I am following this walkthrough from WordPress: https://en.support.wordpress.com/transfer-domain-registration/
  I am transferring to BlueHost, and was looking at the walkthrough from their side (https://my.bluehost.com/cgi/help/45). It makes a point of stating that the ‘whoIs’ information needs to be correct, as that is the information that will be contacted in order to confirm the domain transfer. However, as the contact information is private on WordPress.com, I cannot view it to ensure it is correct. How can I view it and update it to ensure that when I transfer, the right email is contacted? I have tried disabling privacy, but it will not let me.

  Hi Again –

  Sorry! I see you mentioned the domain in your original post. From first glance it appears that you can’t view or edit the contact information because the domain registration is actually held by another account. You’d need to sign in as that account to view and edit the contact information.

  No worries. Sorry for taking so long to reply – I’m a full-time student currently undergoing final project/exam season.

  I have actually signed in as that account (the person who owns the account and purchased the domain gave me their login information for the sake of speeding up the process). It still would not let me edit their information, as it keeps saying the info is private, and yet when I try to change the privacy it still tells me the same thing – to contact support.

  Am I possibly just trying to change these settings in the wrong location? Here’s the instructions I was following to ensure the contact information was correct: https://en.support.wordpress.com/update-contact-information/

  Hello,

  I actually managed to sort out the privacy problem. Apparently you have to cancel it from the “My Upgrades” tab and cancel the private registration that way – you can’t do it straight from the domains panel as suggested by the walkthrough. Once I unlocked the privacy I was able to view that the contact information was correct and didn’t need an update. I requested the transfer and got the authorization code. Just waiting on the main admin to contact BlueHost to confirm the information so I can complete the transfer on their end.
