Privacy of a free account

  How can I make my blog site private – or accessible via a password. I want to use it as a communication platform but not for the general public.
  If this can not be done, how can I close down the account?

  You can make your blog private.
  1. From your blog (siandems.wordpress.com), look in the top left corner where you will see your name (siandem’s blog).
  2. Hover over that and a dropdown will appear – choose the first option, Dashboard.
  3. All the way down on the left side you’ll see the word Settings – hover over that and from the menu that appears, choose Reading
  4. The part called Site Visibility is how you control your settings – you can read more about the options here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/
