Privacy option missing from Settings menu
-
Hello- Our blog is currently set to private. We need it to be public. When I click ‘Settings’, there’s no ‘Privacy’ option. It appears to be hidden or missing.

How do we fix it?
Thanks!!

That is correct. I’m the only account admin. It’s my personal blog :)
It looks like several of the menu items have been deleted or hidden. when I click on ‘Settings’ tab I only get two menu options: Sharing and Polls.
I was going to try and backup my site to move to a new wordpress blog, however when I click on tools the only option that shows up is “Press This”. no export or backup.
-
When it shows only the sharing and polls that’s usually what an author sees and not an admin, so that’s odd. And you said ‘our blog’ and ‘we’ need to make it public. You’re definitely the admin of the blog? I’ll flag this for staff to take a look.

thaiprincess12 is just an Editor on the blog. You’ll need to be logged in as the Administrator, cocotbo.
-
Wow- that explains a lot. Thank you for the note Mac.
We have a problem. Lisa Pietsch is a Marketing Consultant that Nancy Oakley hired to manage this blog. Lisa unfortunately made a lot of promises that were never kept, so Nancy was forced to fire her and hire a new marketing person.
After this happened, Lisa logged in as cocotbo, changed the password, and made the blog private so the world can’t see it. Nancy no longer has access to it and Lisa won’t return phone calls.
As the legal owner of this blog Nancy is desperate to get control back. It has a lot of information about her recently released books and was a critical information source to her clients. What can she do to get control back?

thaiprincess12 is the only login Nancy currently has. Can you reset the password for cocotbo and email Nancy a link?
-
We can only send the password to the email address on the cocotbo account.
To do that, please visit https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword and click “Need More Help?” if necessary.
-
Is there a process for getting control of a stolen WordPress account? That’s what’s happened here.
-
We can fax over license, business documents, whatever you need to prove identity and ownership.
-
The lost password link doesn’t to work for us, as we are recieving no password reset email. It appears the person who hijacked our WP account replaced our email address with hers. What can we do to fix this, since she refuses to communicate with us?
-
The account wasn’t stolen. According to our records, it is connected to the very same email address that it was both registered and activated with.
Blogs are the property of the users who register them, and that user is cocotbo in this case.
-
Ok. Does WordPress have the ability for us to atleast create a backup of the articles, so Nancy can create a second blog for herself to import the articles into? It appears the web interface is too limited for us to do that, as there is no backup or export menu item.
-
Please consider the position Staff is in here. Blogs are the property of the users who register them and according to the records (1) that user is cocotbo and (2) that user cocotbo is connected to the very same email address that the blog was both registered and activated with. The Admin of the blog can create export files and that’s cocotbo.

I have the same problem. I am the only user and admin of my blog, but the privacy setting is missing from my menu as well. How do I find it and change it?
-
-
I understand timetheif. It’s frustrating that WordPress staff lacks the ability to resolve this issue, however I absolutely respect your stand. The email address who originally set the account up technically can be seen as the “owner”, regardless of who it was setup for, or who the blogs represent.
Are you familiar at all with internet law, and if Nancy would have any strong legal grounds to try and gain ownership via legal means?
