Privacy settings

I am very upset about the privacy settings on my WordPress blog. I wanted the site to be password protected because it is a family blog and I am posting photos of my children, for family and friends to see. I wanted to be able to give the site address and the password. So I chose the page to be password protected. However after posting a few posts, I started getting likes from people I didn’t know.
So I looked into it and found that only the homepage was password protected (why on earth would anyone want only the homepage protected and not the posts?). So then I went into each post and made each post password protected.
But then when you go to the homepage or the blog page, all the posts have disappeared. So it is impossible for readers to find the blog post.
So I tried again, and looked up a solution and found there was a plugin that made it possible for the whole site to be password protected (so you didn’t have to do it for each post) so I downloaded the plugin. But now I have tried to install it and find you can only do this with the paid version.
I don’t know what to do apart from changing my blog to another host. All I want is for my family and friends to be able to go to the blog, type in a password and be able to see all the blog posts. Is this possible?
WP.com: Yes
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You don’t need to go to the trouble of password protecting each post or page. That will make it difficult for your visitors. Just set the whole site to Private and then invite the people you want to see it. They will need to create their own WordPresss.com accounts,
