  Can I set my blog as private while I’m creating it, and then make it public once I am happy with it, and, if so, how? Thank you.

  All support docs are found here http://support.wordpress.com
  Type “privacy settings” into the search box and get this http://en.support.wordpress.com/?s=privacy+settings
  Results here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/
  To change blog visibility to Private go to Dashboard > Settings > Reading scroll to Blog Visibility and choose option 3 .
