  I would like to keep my blog private but would like to be able to share the odd post via FB. Is there a way to keep the blog private but set specific posts to be public?

  Maybe this will help. You can keep your blog private but make it visible to users you choose through your Settings page here: https://wordpress.com/settings/general/

  The downside of this is that if you want people to be able to view your posts, you’ll need to invite them to be a viewer.

  Another option is to keep your blog public but discourage search engines from indexing it. Also done through your Settings page.

  A third option could be to set the post/page visibility. You can set the visibility of a post/page to public, password protected, or completely private.
