Privacy settings not working
-
I can’t see the “Reading” option under Settings for my blog “Someplans.wordpress.com”. I wanted to make it private, but now people can’t join. When I click the join request email I get, the link says it is not found. How can I get the privacy settings to work and allow people to actually create accounts and log in to see my site? Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I just clicked the “Request access to view the site” link. We’ll send your username to the site owner for their approval. It worked for me but please do not approve me as a user.
If you’d like to invite others to publish posts or help approve comments on your blog, you can invite them to be a Contributor, Editor, or Author on your blog.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/Follow these directions if you have a private blog that you want to share with users of your choice, without giving them any editing access to your blog. http://en.support.wordpress.com/adding-users/#invite-people-to-view-your-private-blog

NOTE: There is no limit to the total number of users on a private blog. The limit is simply on how many invitations you can send out at any point in time. It’s a spam prevention measure. Send out 10, wait, send out 10.

Someone I do want to approve did the same thing. I click the link and it does not work. I get this: (I changed the user name to be “[USERNAMEREMOVED]” in the link below.)
“The page requested does not exist

I’m getting the email to approve people, but I don’t have the right privileges? How do I fix that?

I’ll tag this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

Were you trying to invite them as viewers or users (authors/editors etc)?
Also, please make sure you log in as the ‘administrator’ of the blog instead of the author.

I’m attempting to invite them as authors. If I’m not the admin, why I am I getting the requests? How do I find out what username I used to create the account if it wasn’t mine?

I’ve just double checked and you’re an author on someplans.wordpress.com. The blog is created under a different user account than yours. Only the blog administrator can adjust the privacy settings and invite users.
If you don’t have access to your account or forgot the password, you can request a new password over here.
Please follow the instructions carefully. You’ll receive two separate emails during the reset process, so make sure you read them both. If you don’t receive the emails right away, check your spam folders as well. The confirmation emails can get caught in them sometimes :)
