Privacy Settings/viewing permissions
-
I have set my blog to private until i finished building it, however i am now unable to preview changes – it keeps asking me to log in but then does not recognise that as owner i have permission. I went to the dashboard and set my other wordpress alias as a viewer – emails received, invitation accepted – yet still not recognizing that i have access – the login window keeps going back to blank fields everybtime i attempt to log in to view the blog. this is extremely frustrating as i am not able to continue building my site. can you tell me what is going wrong please?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,

I’m a little confused here. Do you have more than one user account, and you are using a second account to “preview” the site while it is private? To do this, you must give the other user a “contributor” role or better. “Viewers” are only able to view the site if it is not set to Private.
It is also good to know that the site does not appear any differently when viewing the site under your own account, as opposed to a test account. Is there a particular reason that you are using a second account to view your site while you are getting it ready?
Hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Hi – sorry for the confusing post. The reason I added my other alias is due to the fact that i was not able to view my own blog as its owner – once I had set it to be private it was not letting me in either as londondtp (the owner login) or as my other account. I am still unable to view my blog which is making it difficult to continue building it – checking everything is ok and links working etc prior to making it visible. I don’t understand why as an administrator i am not able to view it – every time I go to view the login page loads stating this is a protected blog. i attempt to login but it does not do anything other than the login page going blank again… Any ideas? I really cannot make it visible yet as there is potentially sensitive information that needs to be finalised prior to public release.. Thank you!

Thank you, that was a big clue. We have received a number of reports that our users with the ISP TalkTalk are having difficulties accessing WordPress.com sites. Specifically they are having trouble accessing dashboard pages, but this would also affect site pages on a site that is set to private.
Please see https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/dashboard-errors-related-to-talktalk-isp-issue?replies=1 for more information.
If you are not on TalkTalk, please let me know what your ISP is, as it may be related.
We are working on our end to clear up this issue with TalkTalk, and in the meantime I thank you for your patience. Thanks.
