Privacy violations of the twentyseventeen theme
-
Hi, I just installed a site for a friend of mine, and that had to be in Dutch. Interestingly, it means that in the default twentyseventeen footer it displayed ‘Supported by WordPress’ in dutch, with a link to the Dutch site. As I cannot find any static data for this information, this means it must pick it up from somewhere – or, in other words, WP gets a hit every time this page is displayed. Can you explain to me how that is done?
At present it looks like a backdoor way to draw statistics without the owner being aware of it which is rather questionable, so I hope it’s just something I missed instead.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The Twenty Seventeen is available only to wordpress.ORG sites at this time and we do not provide support for wordpress.ORG installs here at wordpress.COM. You are posting to the wrong support forum.
Twenty Seventeen is on the way, but it has some completely new features that are not entirely compatible with WordPress.com, so we’ve been working behind the scenes to get everything ready so the theme will work correctly when we launch it here.
I can’t tell you an exact date yet when it will be launched, but hopefully very soon. You can subscribe to this site so you’ll be notified when we make the announcement:
If you are running that theme on a site then it is not hosted by wordpress.COM, and as it is not on our servers we cannot help you with it.
WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
This is wordpress.COM support. We provide support only for wordpress.COM hosted sites. Our support docs do not apply to
(1) local installs of wordpress.ORG software on your own server or
(2) wordpress.ORG software installs on paid hosting, and we do not provide support for them at wordpress.COM.
(3) sites linked to wordpress.COM accounts with the Jetpack plugin so they display on the My Sites wordpress.com account page.
re: wordpress.org support
The wordpress.ORG support forum is at http://wordpress.org/support. The wordpress.ORG login link is here https://login.wordpress.org/ If you do not have an account yet then click Create an account https://login.wordpress.org/register/ and if you have lost an account password click Lost password? https://login.wordpress.org/lostpassword/
WordPress.org support docs are at https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page
See also https://apps.wordpress.org/support/ for app support.re: Jetpack support
Some Jetpack solutions are here http://jetpack.com/support/
Others are in the Jetpack support forum at WordPress.org
http://wordpress.org/support/plugin/jetpack
However, if help cannot be found at either one then they can file a Jetpack support ticket here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/?jetpack=needs-service -
No, I don’t need help with the blog as above, but generically with a WP sourced template that is a default with every new hosted WP instance.
I have not used WP help for years, so the way this works is a surprise – no edit, no delete (in case someone makes a mistake).
-
Yeah – as I said, haven’t used the help function in years. Thanks for the answer – you can close this one then.

This is wordpress.COM support. It is not wordpress.ORG support.

The wordpress.ORG support forum is at http://wordpress.org/support.

Yes, got it the first time, thanks.
You could have saved yourself that post if you’d waited a minute – or, maybe if there was a edit/delete function added so people can change or even zap a post when it’s not correct. Could save hours..
Maybe a good feature request?
-
When we had an edit/delete function it was abused. If such functions are ever added again (and I am sure that will not happen) then I will throw in the towel. (I’ve answered questions here for 11 years. I predate the support docs and all Support Staff being on Staff. On average I answer 6-8 pages with with 30 threads in each one. )

Well, I originally wanted to save you time, hence the question. I do appreciate someone answering that quickly, so my original intention was to zap the post and so remove it from queue.
Cheers.
-
Your intention was a kind one. Only Staff can close, edit or delete threads here. Thanks and best wishes. :)
