Privacy, WordPress published my email.

WordPress states the email entered will not be made public, then publishes it.

I suspect this happened because the theme I chose has a “contact” link and it defaults to the one given to wordpress. I didn’t know how to get rid of the “contact” option so I changed my email.

I also didn’t realize that the prefix to my email would automatically be used for a wordpress email. All anyone has to do is put the typical email servers, hotmail, gmail, etc. and they will hit on my email.

    So much for privacy.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Note that there will be auto-filled information in a contact form or a comment box but your information is visible to you when you are logged in and have not cleared your browser cache and cookies. However, no one else can see it.

When someone makes a comment on your blog, unless they have cleared their cookies https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-wordpress-com-cookies, WordPress.com will recognize them and complete the details for them. However, no one else will be able to view those details in comment boxes or in contact forms. The next person who comments will see blank fields. Commenters will not see each other’s details.

    Additional information:
There is an Admin link on posts and pages that only you as Admin and any Editors you have created can see when you are logged in. It’s for your convenience and your visitors cannot see it. You cannot remove it as it’s coded into the theme templates and we cannot edit templates or themes.

The only people who can edit your site are those you provide with that ability. See here https://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/ and here please https://en.support.wordpress.com/email-notifications/

If you log out, clear your browser cache https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache and cookies https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-wordpress-com-cookies and then visit your site without logging in that links will not appear to you.

  • I’m not 100% sure that I am following you.

Are you talking about the fact that when you go to the “contact” link you your site you see your information prefilled in on the contact form?

That information is only showing because you are logged into WordPress.com. The contact form prefills in with the information if you view it with a logged in account. If I view that page, I see my information filled in. I do not see yours. If you want to test this, log out of WordPress.com (or use a browser that you are not logged in on) and visit the contact page. You will not see your information.
