  You can password-protect individual posts but not the entire blog.

  Some paid hosts allow for this option. (ie “password protected subdirectories” is the term.) You may be happier with paid hosting if that option is important for you.

  The link that Victoria provides will probably keep you out of the major search engines and blog listings but it’ll still keep your blog visable.
