private blog

WordPress is not friendly to those who want to set their blog as private. We will have to add friends one by one, and then any of my friends who want to set up their blog as private will have to add me too. It just takes too much time and so inconvenient. I loved my live space, but since I was forced to move my blog to here everything changed. I can’t read my friend’s blog and they can’t read mine without so much troubles, simply because we want to keep our blog private. It is such a pain to use this blog under this setting. One thing I would like to comment is that not everyone wants to maximine the public attention, and I am sure there are many more people who are like me would like to sharepersonal stories and feeling only with friends. If this issue is not sorted out soon, I am thinking abandon using this blog and move to google.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

WordPress.com uses (functioning) email addresses to identify each user (person) who you want to allow access to your private blog.

Consider how it would work if you invited your friends by only a name:
Which name would precisely (accurately) identify any of them?

Name on passport or drivers license or birth certificate? A social security number typed on an online form? A nickname from elementary school? An assumed online name? How many people have the same first and last names? the same nicknames?

And would you want to ask your friends to submit their social security numbers and birth dates? What happens to their privacy.

What would happen to yours if several Earnest Rights discovered they could read your blog even though only one is your real friend?

Consider if you had a password for your friends. That might work for a while, but what if one of your friends shared the password with another friend (someone you don’t know, or even someone you don’t like). Not good for making sure your blog remains private.

just giving you something to consider…

Earnest Rights was supposed to be a common name: I should have said Jim Smith or Jane Dough…

totally agree witht this user’s opinion!! wordpress is not friendly to private blogs. Before moving to this site, we can see wordpress promised that, our friends do not need to do anything more, and can be easily directed to this site. However, it’s very disappointed that we saw it does not like what you promised!

We type in our friends email address, then click the “add”. But it dose not work! We can’t understand why keying in their email address can not be accepted?!

also, wordpress is completely not localized! why all of us have to use English in Forums? in supporting centers??

@christinecheng520: I can certainly understand you are upset the forums are not in your language, but I beg to differ that ALL of you have to use English. Forums are available in 18 different languages.

Also, your gripe is with Microsoft, not with WordPress.com.

Also, I can understand people feel they are “forced” to move to WordPress.com, but you are not forced to stay here.

On the other hand, anything that is new for you will always seem like it’s not user-friendly at first. If you give it a chance, you might actually enjoy WordPress.com very much!

I have a private blog. Invited 29 users. None of them can log on, help!

Do they have WordPress.com IDs yet?

The whole process for looking friend’s private blog or inviting my friend to read my blod needs 1) set up wordpress both side. If one of them has not done yet, you will need to wait and chase them to do so 2) add friend to my allow list 3) tell my friend that they’ve added my address and they need to subscribte it, 4) my friend needs to subscribe it and possibly to tell me too. NB: that is only the steps your need to do in order to let my frind see my blog. If you want to see your friend’s private blog, repeat the process again (double the process)…Just imagine how much time you need to spend on this just for subsribing your friend’s blog and allowing your friend to see. You simply could not get these things done in one time and in the same site, as you need to use the phone, email or meet up to communicate the how far you have done on the setting up process. This is complete time wasting and far too much trouble invovled. Why wordpress could not develop a notification button, so people can ask whether they can access my blog, and then all I need to do is to click the ‘confirm’, ‘reject’, or ‘ignore’ button. Like the facebook, you can let others know that you want to access their fb, and then they can decide whether they want to confirm you are friend or not. Of course, I will get the notification too telling me that my friend accept me. That gives equal security, but avoid so much troubles.
