private blog

Hi there,
I am trying to start an internal blog for the Overseas Building Operations branch of the US State Department. Is this something I can set up within a WordPress site? If so, how? Thanks in advanced, Victoria WalkerI don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

Hi Victoria,
This is definitely something you can set up using either WordPress.com, or the self-hosted version of WordPress made on WordPress.org – that version is what you want if you’d prefer for the site to be hosted on an internal server, rather than at an outside hosting provider like WordPress.com.
Note that to access a private site on WordPress.com, every person who needs access will need a WordPress.com username account.
The open source version on the other hand doesn’t have a built in option to set the site to private, but you can use a membership plugin to restrict content to site members only.
However, you might also be interested in our P2 platform. P2 is a special type of blog created especially for organisations to use for collaborative “blogging”, i.e. using a blog as an internal (but public within the organisation) communication channel. It’s what we use internally at WordPress.com as well to have discussions, record agendas and minutes for meeting, manage projects, as a searchable knowledgebase, and really everything else.
If you want to look into that option you can find more information here:
There’s a Contact link at the top of that site if you need more information on P2 specifically, or you’re welcome to ask here if you have any other questions.
