Private blog and new viewers

  I am trying to set my blog up as a private blog. I changed the settings to make it private, but need help for after that. When people go to it they see that it is private and need to enter a password. Ideally this is what I wanted, please tell me if it is possible. I want a private blog that when people go to it they can request to view or follow it.

  If this is not possible, then how do people view if they have not been added as a viewer? I do not have everyone’s emails so it makes it harder to have to invite viewers.

  It says they need a password, what password is this? Can I set one up for outside viewers? I do not want them to have mine.

  I had gone to all those links already. I am still confused. I made my blog private. So to clarify is the only option on a private blog to invite viewers or add followers? When new people go to the site now they are asked for a password. I am guessing that is my password and just for me unless I want to give people access like I have, which I do not.
