Private Blog Invitation's Access Page
-
what page are people who are invited to a private blog but who don’t have a wordpress account sent to? Is it a registration page that explains they must register with wordpress or is it simply my blog’s URL that shows them a wordpress Log In box (but no registration explanation etc) or what exactly?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
You can have either a public or a private blog and there is no limitation on the total number of contributors to any blog. If you’d like to invite others to publish posts or help approve comments on your blog, you can invite them to be a Contributor, Editor, or Author. If you want users to receive updates each time you publish new content you can invite them to be a follower/viewer.
To change blog visibility to Private go to > Settings > Reading scroll to Blog Visibility and choose option 3. See the guide here http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings
See here please:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/adding-users/ and here http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/The person will have to register a username account but does not need to register a blog. That requirement is because the software has to be able to differentiate between hackers and official users and allow access only to those with username accounts and official roles on the blog.
They will need to click the “Accept Invitation” button in the invitation email. If they are logged into their WordPress.com account, they will be taken directly to your blog. If not, they will be taken to the log-in screen, where they can either log in or create a new user account.
Note that users who create a new WordPress.com account at that point will still need to return to the invitation email and click the “Accept Invitation” button after doing so.
Lastly, there is a built-in spammer prevention so send out only 10 invitations at one point in time and then wait and manage those before sending out 10 more.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply (although a lot more than I needed to know). My blog is already set to private. I sent a test invitation email and the Accept Invitation button points here: https://wordpress.com/?action=wpcom-invite-users&key=bb7e2345fbc30a835426c74d2e4581cd&blog_id=24969558
I mean this is just silly. What the heck is anyone unfamiliar with WordPress going to make of being sent to this page when they’ve just clicked on an “Accept Invitation” button in their email.
Of course they should be sent to a page with a customised explanation of how to accept their invitation. Otherwise they just won’t bother. Anyone know how I can have this issue escalated at WordPress to get a worthwhile outcome?
Thanks!

You can email Staff at
help@wordpress.comand wait for a response patiently as there is a backlog. -
Thanks for the email. I’ve emailed them a link to this post.
Attention WP HELP:
If the recipient of the invitation doesn’t have an existing WP account they simply get sent to the generic page at https://wordpress.com
This being the case, I’m hoping WordPress can customise a join page for people who don’t have a WP account that explains how to accept the invitation by creating a WP account?
You could then give me (or anyone else who requests it) the URL to an optional page to send non existing WP users to that we can write in the message body of invitations. Alternatively, create a 2nd “Accept Invitation” button for Non WP a/c holders.
Hope you will help. Thanks.
