Private blog: notifying a new user their access has been approved

  • Unknown's avatar

I have a private blog. When a WordPress user tries to visit my blog before they’ve been approved for access, they hit the page that allows them to click the line “Request Access”. As you know, I then get an e-mail asking me to authorize that user on my blog.

    Two problems I’m having:

    1) After I approve the user, apparently wordpress doesn’t generate a confirmation e-mail to the new user to let them know I’ve approved their access. Unless they’ve publicized an e-mail address and associated it with their wordpress account, I have no way of alerting the new user they’ve been authorized. Am I missing something? If not, could you please add this feature? This lack of feedback to the user is a barrier to enlisting blog readership.

    2) Unless a WordPress user has associated their wordpress username with an e-mail address in their profile, I have no way of contacting that user before I authorize them (for instance, if I want to verify their identity). Again, am I missing something? Can you provide a user with the e-mail address associated with the username requesting access? If not, can you at least add an “e-mail the user requesting access” function, and put it in the e-mail I receive when an unknown blogger is requesting access? This way, I can contact them, but their e-mail address can remain undisclosed to me.

Thank you for your help for a WordPress (and blogging) newbie!

  • 1 and 2. Great points, we’ll look into adding that.

At this time, private blogs are really designed for the blogger to invite the viewers, but we’ll look into expanding the request feature.
