Private blog: Who gets notified of new posts?
-
I recently changed my blog to private, so only users I approve can have access to it. But now I am realizing that there seems to be a difference from approving *followers* and approving *viewers*.
Basically I want to know who gets notified when I post something new. Anyone with approval? Only followers, not viewers?
Also, where can I see a list of those who are following or viewing? I approved two people today but can’t find them under WordPress or Email Followers, nor are they listed under Users.
Thank you for any help you can offer! I like having a private blog, but I’d like to know if the people I care about actually know when I post something new!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Please read this about public blogs that become private blogs > Blog Privacy and Subscribers > http://wpcommaven.wordpress.com/2011/09/05/blog-privacy-and-subscribers/ -
Also, where can I see a list of those who are following or viewing?
Your site stats page displays how many followers you have, who your followers are, as well as how many people are subscribed to post comments on your site. http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/
Dashboard > Site stats > Total, ‘Followers’ , Shares
http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/#totals-followers-sharesClick “blog” and when that page opens click “email followers”

Hi @timethief!
Thanks for the very helpful information. Maybe it’s because my brain is tired, but after I read the blog post I still have a question about this portion:“Subscribers, both WordPress.com users and those who have subscribed by email, will still show up on your Subscribers stats page. However, in spite of any misleading dashboard messages, like the one below that appears after you publish a new post, new posts are not sent out to your previous subscriber list. The only people who will be able to subscribe to your private site are the people you’ve invited to view it.”
Does this mean if I had 3 email subscribers before going private, and 2 more email subscribers AFTER going private (for a total of 5 subscribers), that only the 2 that have recently subscribed will be notified — the other three will not?

As I have zero personal experience with this, I’m tagging this for a Staff response, lest I provide an incorrect answer.

Thank you, I appreciate it! :)
To avoid any confusion, I basically just want to know if approved viewers of a private blog are notified (by email or other means) when I post something new.

All followers will receive notification of new posts, but only invited users can follow a private blog.
