Private invitations don't get sent

  • Unknown's avatar

I created a private site but some users don’t receive my invitations. I deleted the invitations and made them again, still without result. Also, one user who happened to get accepted doesn’t appear in my user list. I am the only one in that list as admin.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can have either a public or a private WordPress.COM hosted blog and there is no limitation on the total number of contributors to any blog. If you’d like to invite others to publish posts or help approve comments on your blog, you can invite them to be a Contributor, Editor, or Author. If you want users to receive updates each time you publish new content you can invite them to be a follower/viewer.

To change blog visibility to Private go to > Settings > Reading scroll to Blog Visibility and choose option 3. See the guide here http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings

    See here please:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/adding-users/ and here http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/

The person will have to register a username account which requires an email address only, but does not need to register a blog. That requirement is because the software has to be able to differentiate between hackers and official users and allow access only to those with username accounts and official roles on the blog.

They will need to click the “Accept Invitation” button in the invitation email. If they are logged into their WordPress.com account, they will be taken directly to your blog. If not, they will be taken to the log-in screen, where they can either log in or create a new user account.

Note that users who create a new WordPress.com account at that point will still need to return to the invitation email and click the “Accept Invitation” button after doing so.

Lastly, there is a built-in spammer prevention so send out only 10 invitations at one point in time and then wait and manage those before sending out 10 more.

If you have people who have accepted the invitation please provide their username here, and type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for Staff assistance.

I’ll tag this thread for Staff assistance. Will you please provide a couple of usernames for those WordPress.com bloggers who did not receive the emails as well as a couple of email addresses for those who do not have WordPress.com accounts? The software will redact ie. HIDE the email addresses so only Staff can see them. After you do that subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

    Hi there,

If some users don’t receive your invitations at all, please ask them to try the following steps:

    1. At https://subscribe.wordpress.com/ enter the email address used on WordPress.com and click on “Request details.”
    2. You will receive an email titled “[Subscribe] Your Subscription Details” containing a link looking like this: https://subscribe.wordpress.com/?key=a111b222&email=wp%wp.com.
    3. Copy that link in your browser address and add &unsub_invites&option=cancel at the end.
    4. You should get a line that looks like https://subscribe.wordpress.com/?key=a111b222&email=wp%wp.com&unsub_invites&option=cancel — click enter to load it.
    5. A confirmation message will appear: “You will now receive invite emails again at (email visible only to moderators and staff). To stop receiving them, click here.”

That will make sure they haven’t blocked invitations from WordPress.com, so they can receive your invitations.

If the problem persists after that, please let me know the email addresses of the users who aren’t received your invitations. You can include them in your reply here and only staff will be able to see them, to keep them private.

The invitations are now settled. They finally got them. The next problem is that none of the invited (and accepted) users appear in my ‘users’ list. Some users that got in are even showed ‘waiting’ (pending) in the invitation list, while they already have access!

    Hi there,

When you invite someone to view your private site, those viewers won’t appear in your regular list of users. Instead, you’ll see them listed under “Users allowed to access site” at Settings > Reading in your site’s dashboard.

I see what you mean about one of the invitations still being listed as “Waiting,” though. I’ll let our team know about that issue — we won’t be able to fix that right away, but if we can figure out why that’s happening we’ll try to get that sorted out. In the meantime, the list of users at Settings > Reading will show you exactly who has access to your private site, and you can manage their access from there.

Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that. :)

Settings -> Reading doesn’t allow me to set access rights, it only allows for removal of users.

When you add someone as a viewer, that’s separate from adding them as a user who can contribute to the blog. If you’d like someone to contribute as a user on your blog, rather than just viewing the blog, you’ll need to invite them separately as a contributor, author, editor, or administrator. There isn’t a way to directly change someone from a viewer into a contributor on the blog.
