private page

Can anyone advise why a private page keeps opening the main login page when I have only added a password to protect it.

I have not “keep this private”.

I want the browser to click the link, enter the password and go to the page.

    the blog is http://www.loughboroughjunction.com

    Thanks in advance

There are two ways to do things.

One is to have the not private but have it password protected.

The other is to set it to private which would require someone to be logged in and a user on your account.

Are you reffering to your page tab: “admin”
    it is linked to
    (theblogname).wordpress.com/admin/

which would take you back to the log-in of your Dashboard.

I don’t why that rould happen but i will point out for clarification for others.

That’s weird dlager. I didn’t even check since a private page won’t even show up on a blog at all.

I wonder if they put that there so that they could easily get to the admin page?

I’d like to have one of my blogs anonymous but my main blog name keeps showing up. how do I keep my identity secret on my second blog?

@chill24, this is off topic for this thread. Please start a new one so that things don’t get confused.

    Thank you.

Well in any case you shouldn’t be ablt to create a page linking back to your Administration page with a password protected page.

and now i see what your saying We shouldn’t even be able to see the Tab.

    Perhaps loughborough should contact support.

Thanks guys, you’ve been great with this, I’m impressed!

I made the ‘admin’ tab on the top with the intention of just needing a password to view the page however it keeps launching the main wordpress login page – which is clearly not what I want.

Do you think it is a glitch with the particular design? I want it to be a private area for a select few to use.

    Thanks for your help.

A page set to private can only be viewed through the dashboard, and only by the author of the page, or someone with admin experience.

Instead of private, open the post for edit, password protect it and then publish it. To assure yourself it is going to work the way you want, first try it with a test page.

Once someone has typed in the password, and viewed the page, that particular person will no longer have to enter the password to see the page until the cookies on their computer are cleared (wordpress sets a cookie on their computer). Anyone new coming to the page would have to enter the password.

hmmm, thats where I am struggling as I dont have the box “Keep this page private” ticked. but I have entered a password in the drop down under “Password Protect This Page”. I think I might take this up with support as I can’t see what I am doing wrong.

It seems unfortunate that my choice of page name for this was “Admin”. This is the advice I received from support. so for the record, don’t name a button Admin!

    Hi,
You will not be able to name a page “admin”. It will automatically redirect to your dashboard. You must change the page name/permalink to something “blog-admin”.
