I made my site private but yesterday shows 109 views, and the associated email was slammed with 93 ‘undeliverable message’ messages in the in box. What is going on??

  • HI there,

Is this for the site, http://bennetsdigest.wordpress.com/ ?

That site’s stats shows 1 visitor with 1 view for yesterday, which could only have been you as you are the only user on that site.

The 109 number you see is the best ever daily views, and those views occurred on a day somewhere between 2012 and 2014 when your site was not set to private.

I’m not sure what you mean by the email address. How do you know you received undeliverable emails? If they’re undeliverable you wouldn’t have received anything, and the person trying to send the email would have received the error.

I checked our logs, and we’ve sent you a total of 12 emails in the past month from our system, most of them for a site, Under the blue door, and two regarding this forum thread.

The messages were in my inbox telling me I had sent undeliverable mail from the email address associated with this blog. I’ve sent nothing, so I was evidently hacked. Thanks for explaining the 109.

  • If anything was hacked, it’s your email account, then. I’d recommend immediately changing that password, as well as the passwords of all online accounts associated with that email address. Also consider enabling two-factor authentication – most email providers should have that option.

But we don’t have any ability to send emails from your email account, so however those emails were sent out, it was not caused by something in your WordPress.com account.

Pardon me for not thanking you sooner for your prompt response! It’s been helpful, thank you.

  • You’re very welcome :)
