private site for practice before going public

    Hi,

I’ve set up a site (pctutor1) and have sent out invitations to a number of users (learners) but only 2 have appeared in my list of blogs. I did have 4 other contacts but I have deleted them from my list. The other users also sent out invitations but again only one or two have come through. We are trying to use WordPress within a class environment so new users can learn how to set up their own blog and web site so as you can imagine this is rather embarrassing. The invitations were sent out some were set to viewer and others contributor, we all selected accept invitation so I don’t understand why they are not all visible. Can you help?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

I went to view your pending invitations at Users -> Invite New from your site’s dashboard and I didn’t see any accepted or pending invitations that you’ve sent. So I have a few questions:

    1. How are you inviting people to your blog?

    2. What do you want these users you invite to do: set up their own WordPress.com account and site, or do you want them to contribute to pctutor1.wordpress.com?

If you have any more information, that would be most useful.

Let me know if you have any questions!

    Hi,

Sorry for the delay – Bank holiday!

I have a number of learners using WordPress, they have set up private accounts while they learn how to use the software.

The learners have set up new WordPress accounts and are setting them to private for the first few weeks.

I want each learner to be able to view and comment on each others blog/web site.

We all selected invite contributor – entered each others email address and accepted the invitation – two came through but the others did not this was the same for some of the other learners.

I have done this before without any problems – I have deleted previous learners from my site so I should be able to invite 10 new learners.

    Any Ideas?

    Regards…

You can have more than 10 users on a private site, we only limit the number of invites to 10 at a time so prevent spamming. This means if you want to invite more than 10, you would need to do the process twice.

With regards to the email invitations to join the blog, please have the users who did not receive the email to check their spam folder as it is common for invitations from WordPress.com to be flagged as spam. Here’s a reference that might be useful:

Please note that you can also invite users with their WordPress.com username instead of their email address. Perhaps trying that might help?

Let me know if you have any questions.
