Private site invitations don't work

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi there, I’ve now made the site private and sent out invites to viewers but when they open the link it says ‘oops that page can’t be found’. The site is now called idontgetit.blog

  • Hi @eks80, I split your reply into a new thread.

That site seems to be owned by another user; I can see you were invited but only as a viewer.

If you’re trying to invite more people, your invite link won’t work. It’s specific to your email address or username. Also, you’re not an administrator, so you wouldn’t be able to add more people. But the site owner can. They can add up to 10 at a time – just separate the usernames or emails with commas.

    Hoping that helps!

Thanks but I actually own both those emails so I am the site owner. I was just using the other email to test whether it was working.
So i own the site @ellykate80 and I added myself as a viewer using a different email address but it doesn’t work. When I open the link it says that page cant be found. It’s incredibly frustrating as Ive tried everything!

  • Hi there,

Can you share the exact link that you’re clicking that gives the Not Found message?

The eks80 account had successfully been added as a viewer, so I assume you’re not speaking of the Accept Invitation link/button in the invitation email, correct?

If it’s for a specific post, I notice all the posts on your site were initially published as Private themselves, and only set to Published about an hour ago, after your last comment here. If so, that was the problem – private posts and pages are only visible to the site admin, regardless of the privacy status of the site itself, and regardless of the role in which any other user is added.

To have your content be visible to viewers, the posts and pages themselves have to be published as public. The privacy setting for the site as a whole controls who can see it or not.

Let me know if you have any questions about this.
