private viewers

  Hi – i am new to WP.com
  Can someone please tell me how to make my site private so that authorised users can view but not edit/add posts or pages?
  The only users I seem to be able to add are authors, and I assume authors can alter content, which is not what I want.

  and yes raincoaster I am also the administrator of the blog
