Probably a silly question
-
I’m pretty new to blogging, and I’ve tried searching these forums, but I’m not finding what I’m looking for…
I am using the Sela theme and it’s the perfect set-up I’d like for my upcoming blog, but one thing I’d like to get rid of is the big “HOME” title above the central blurb. When I try to change it, it wants to change the page url (“home” which I’d like to keep).
There’s probably an easy answer for this, but again, I’m new to all this and don’t want to mess up my blog.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

hi @simsdesignideas
go to https://simsdesignideas.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=page
click “modify” under the page “Home”
modify the title
normally you have, under the line of the title, a line with the link, and a button modify
tell us if it works !

Thank you for the response. However, I did try that and, while it does change the big “HOME” title above the central blurb, it also changes the “page” url to whatever I change the title to.
Example: If I change that text to “WELCOME!” it also changes the page url to ‘…./welcome’ and thus, changes the page to ‘WELCOME’ in my site’s menu, and that’s not what I wanted. I wanted the url to stay as ‘…./home’ while simply having the “WELCOME!” text on the static home page instead of the silly-looking “HOME.”
Anyone have any ideas how to do that? I would think that ‘naming’ a page would be considerably/clearly different than being directly associated to the text ‘on’ the page.
Thanks for the help.

Yes, that’s exactly what I want. I want the page to say ‘welcome’ but the url to remain as ‘home,’ so that the site’s menu doesn’t indicate the ‘home’ page as ‘welcome.’
Can I ask how you did it, please? And thank you.

of course
– go to
https://simsdesignideas.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=page
– look at the page named home or welcome and clock on “quick edit” or something like that (in french “modification rapide”).
– you must have this (screen shot)
– type welcome and home as in the screen shot.when you’ve done that tell me if it is ok and particularly tell me if the menu reacts as you want.

I clicked on the link you gave, clicked on ‘quick edit’ which matched the screen shot that you supplied exactly. I adjusted the ‘title’ to ‘welcome’ and left the slug as ‘home’ just as you again indicated in your screen shot, and then updated, and then I viewed the page and it’s still changing the site’s home page to ‘welcome’ instead of leaving it as ‘home.’
I very much appreciate the help, but I think I’m done with WordPress.com.
Thank you none the less, Vincent, and keep up the good work/help you offer here.

hi @simsidea
if you keep still a little more patience maybe we can solve the pb…
i asked your question on the french forum, here is the answer :after the page to be published, the URL adress manually choosen is automatically replaced by the new name of the page.
However, it seems possible to change the URL before you update the page.
If these explanations do not help you, wen can type “modlook” in the tags of this post at the right of this page, and someone from the staff will come answer
