what can I do to fix this problem?

Hi there!
What’s the address of the site you’re working on, and where exactly do you see this error?
Please note that these forums are for WordPress.com-hosted sites only. If your site is using the open-source WordPress.org software, we won’t be able to help you out, and you’ll want to seek help at these forums:

The message ‘you need to set authorised client ID in your config. file’ appears when I try to open the WP app on my desktop. I have uninstalled the WP app and reinstated it on the desk top but message still appears which stops me using the WP app.

What is the URL of the site you’re trying to use in the desktop app, or were you not even able to make it that far?
Also, is this the Mac, Windows, or Linux app?
-
Correct. I wasn’t able to get that far. I click on the WP app and I get the message.
Windows app. I’m using Windows 10

Hello there,
Ok many thanks for that information.
You would need to make a site at WordPress.com first, being being able to use the app.

I hope this helps.

I am part of a WP site called Welfare Reflections where I post and edit others posts. I get into the site OK and can do all I need to do, by going through the web to my welfarereflections site. Its just that the WP app on my desktop no longer works. Whenever I open it it tells me ‘You need to set oauth client_id in your config file.’ I’ve tried reinstalling the app it but I still get the same message. I don’t know what the message means.

Hi there,
This is an issue that our engineers are keeping track of, and it seem the error message you are seeing is related to an issue with the app data files becoming corrupted.
To resolve this issue please delete and uninstall the app.
Once the app is deleted you will need to locate and delete the app resources folder. The path of the folder is
C:Users<username>AppDataRoamingWordPress.comin Windows 10. The application data folder can be hidden on Windows, so a neat trick to finding it is entering%appdata%in the Cortana search bar. After you have located and deleted the folder, you can re-install a fresh copy of the app, and should not have any issues from that point forward.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
