problem assigning domains

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi everyone,

    I have a blog, rawtapes.wordpress.com
Lately i bought domain mapping and mapped an already registered domain to the wordpress address. Everything is fine except now, everytime i try to link to something which is on my server, the link becomes broken since the domain “rawtapesrecords.com/whatever” redirects to rawtapes.wordpress.com/whatever

lets say i have an mp3 which i want to embed in my blog, i type down the link” http://www.rawtapesrecords.com/song.mp3″, but the link actually directs to “http://rawtapes.wordpress.com/song.mp3” – which doesnt exist.

Can anyone advise how i can fix that? I need only the homepage to direct to rawtapes.wordpress.com, but to keep the original adress when it links to uploaded stuff on the server.

    Thanks,
    Guy

  • Hi, Guy.

When you map a base domain on WordPress.com, the entire domain is mapped over – it’s not possible to pick and choose the files or directories that are on the original server. Because you’ve changed your domain’s nameserver, every request is pointed at WordPress.com.

If you only want to change a portion of your domain, the best option is to use a subdomain for mapping. You can read more about this here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-subdomain/

If you have mapped the domain and believe you’ve made a mistake in doing so, please contact us in Support and explain the situation in your request and we can look at it.
